About the game

Pop Tanks drops two to four tiny tanks into a fresh maze every round. Each tank carries three balloons, and every paint pellet that hits a tank pops one of them. Lose all three and you are out. The last tank still rolling takes the round, and the first to win three rounds (two in a game with three or four tanks) wins the match.

Pellets bounce off walls up to five times, so the best shots go around corners. That cuts both ways: once a pellet has bounced it can pop your own balloons too. Grab the power-ups that appear in the maze: a triple shot, a big bubble pellet, or a shield that soaks up one hit. After a minute every tank drops to a single balloon for a tense sudden-death finish.

Rounds are short and a match usually takes one to three minutes. Face one to three computer tanks on three difficulty levels, or share one keyboard or phone with a friend in 2 Players mode.

How to play

  1. Drive through the maze and fire paint pellets. Each hit pops one balloon.
  2. Pellets bounce off walls. After a bounce they can hit you too!
  3. Lose all 3 balloons and you are out. Last tank standing wins the round.
  4. Grab power-ups: triple shot, big bubble or shield. At 1:00 everyone drops to 1 balloon.

Controls

Computer
W/S to drive, A/D to turn, Space to fire. Or point with the mouse, hold the left button to drive and right-click to fire. 2 Players: WASD + Space and arrows + Enter.
Phone & tablet
Drag anywhere to point your tank: it turns, then drives. Tap FIRE to shoot. In 2 Players mode each player uses one half of the screen.

Questions

Can my own shots hit me?

Yes, but only after the pellet has bounced off a wall at least once. A pellet that is still on its first straight line can never hit the tank that fired it.

Can two people play on one device?

Yes. Choose "2 Players". On a keyboard one player uses WASD and Space, the other the arrow keys and Enter. On a phone or tablet the screen is split in two, and you can add up to two computer tanks.

How do the computer tanks play?

They find their way through the maze like you do. Easy tanks wander and shoot loosely, medium tanks chase you and dodge, and hard tanks look for bank shots off the walls and grab power-ups.

Is Pop Tanks free?

Yes. It runs in your browser on desktop and mobile with no download or sign-up.
